We want you to contribute to Notes from the Underground. The submission guidelines are very open. We simply ask that submissions are under 2000 words. The sort of submissions that we are looking for include (but aren’t restricted to):
- Comic stories, sketches, cartoons and comic poetry
- Longer short stories up to a maximum of 1800 words
- Very short stories of only one or two sentences
- Travel Writing and reportage
There is no thematic restriction whatsoever, however given that the paper is most likely to be read on the move we have found that stories written with a certain pace have tended to have the best feedback.
If you’d like to send work in then please send it to us as a word attachment with a word count and your contact details.
For all forms of contribution please send your work to: email@example.com
N.B OUR NOTES FROM THE UNDERGROUND EMAILS ARE EXPERIENCING TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES – PLEASE SEND ALL EMAILS TO NFTU.EDITOR@GMAIL.COM UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
While we do work as hard as possible to get through submissions and get back to you, as we have a small editorial team and a lot of submissions it can, on occasion, take some time. So please allow eight weeks for a response to your submission and another six weeks for feedback if you have requested it. If we haven’t got back to you after this period then do feel free to nudge us as emails do occasionally slip through the cracks.
Unfortunately at the moment we are unable to pay for submissions as we have devoted our budget to a large print run and a wide distribution network in the hope that we will be able to help writers gain access to a new audience and get their work recognised and published elsewhere. It is for this reason that we only ask for a one off license to publish your work and you retain copyright.
