Hackney WickED Art Festival 2010

Hackney WickED is back and you better get ready! The creative hotspot of East London is preparing to open hidden doorways leading to warehouse live-work studios for a unique chance to explore grassroots art and talent.

Galleries will showcase specially curated exhibitions for the WickED and the plethora of performance artists, photographers, dancers, film-makers, painters, sculptors and musicians will be enticing you to get involved.

Hackney Wicked Art Festival is “the most vital art event of the summer” (NY Arts), and is expanding year on year, so… Come for the art; come for the laughs; come for the minted-pea ice cream… but make sure you do come and experience the best of what the ‘wrong side of the Olympic fence’ has to offer.

Highlight Shows & Events Include:

The Agile Rabbit with Gavin Turk & Co: Extending the ever romanticized legend of artists congregating in bars and cafes, this exhibition brings together the work of artists connected by regular congregations in the Lighthouse Pub.

Queen’s Yard will be the place to shop, dance, eat and rest after traipsing around hundreds of open studios! With Fete for the Wickedand the official Live Music Stage hosting up and coming bands over the weekend.

The Peanut Factory Stage: 12-5 live theatre, cabaret and comedy, including performances by Hackney Wick’s resident Tax Deductibletheatre company, and ‘The Hive’, followed by 5pm- 10pm live music and DJs.

Art Feelers specially curated tours of Hackney WickED… feeling a bit lost and want an insider’s helping hand? Join a specialist art tour to guide you around the labyrinth of galleries and studios on Friday.

Graffiti Jams, brought to you by ONITDesign.com, in the yard of 92 White Post Lane where artists will be painting in the famous Hackney Wick “Hall of Fame’.

Gadjes Collective presents Hackney Wikipedia celebrating the Wick, focusing on random and dispersed historical facts upon which it was founded and developed, from Charlotte Kaye’s Edwardian Hackney Wick chair to Uli Blanchets’s manipulated street signs.

Oriana Fox ‘No Pain Bo Gain’ and ‘Penny Social’ workshops: Oriana will lead a wellbeing workshop to help participants get in touch with their inner child and begin savouring each and every precious moment of life.

The Beard Gallery presents Hackney Wicked’s first ever Church Fete Fundraiser: CAUSE ‘the hole in the roof‘!
An interactive installation where contemporary art meets folk culture. Don’t miss Pimms o’clock; the Watercolour challenge; Jam judging and Raffles.

Anna Rondina And now!-YOGA presents Mindfulness through Stillness, a mutating installation of still body forms.

The Scottish Weirdo’s collaborate with Cosmic Megabrain to produce a SIT DOWN AFFAIR involving a dinner-based performance and video art. Watch out for Flash Mobs with Punk Choir aka the Hackney Secular Singers.

On Sunday, The 5th Annual Hackney Wick Coracle Regatta: Head down to the banks of the River Lea to take part.  The closing ceremony will then see the Burning of the Wicker Man and a surprise to end this year’s festival.

Elevator Gallery The Tomorrow People: artists of the future now At Elevator Gallery showcasing a handpicked selection of the best work from emerging artists across the nation.

Forman’s Smokehouse Gallery “I see myself there, where I am not”, brings together the work of 10 artists who examine the various ways art is used as a heteropological accessory, a mode realised by the gaze of the viewer.

Maryland Studios The 11 diverse artists of Maryland Studios will open their studio doors to you, giving you the opportunity to explore and discuss paintings-in-progress, finished work, drawings and models.

Schwartz Gallery presents the work of Doug Burton showing a new body of work, ‘Continuum’ consists of a wax sculpture installation, computer-generated animation and a large-scale 3D stereoscopic floor installation.

Stour Space is proud to present an exhibition featuring residents of the space, plus a Corner Carnival Designers Market with beer garden and barbeque with live art!

The View Tube is built from bright green shipping containers on the Greenway, presenting new works by local designers, painters and 3D sculpture makers. You can also grab a snack at the industrial chic Container Cafe.
